Bird Guano

Cleaning up after birds

Bird guano is both unsightly and dangerous. It carries a multitude of bacteria and is also very slippery when wet, so a massive H&S issue.

Simply sweeping up these droppings is not the best solution as this will simply cause the dust to fly up and migrate, which can then be ingested by anybody in its wake. Bird droppings can carry numerous diseases including Cryptococcus’s, Histoplasmosis and Psittacosis. It may also carry the virus called Encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. Although there has never been any proven link between fatal diseases and bird droppings evidence is such cases is very strong to the contrary.

Bird droppings are also very acidic which can lead to corrosion to the surfaces its being dropped onto. Tar based materials like roofing felt is extremely susceptible as are paint finishes.

It’s very common for ventilation AC units to become contaminated which in turn then spreads the possible diseases around the property it’s servicing. Expensive repair bills are also common place.

On top of this, insects are almost definitely going to be present in the guano and nests, and once the chicks have fledged, such bugs like mite, fleas, bedbug/martin bug may then migrate into the buildings below. All of which could pose a threat to human health.  Add the damage caused to buildings this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.  Proofing can be carried out by our pest control team if required.
